Apparently, the end justifies the means for Lynn Woolsey. A glaring example came up as the health care bill was being decided in Congress. I quote from an unpublished March 19 letter to the Press Democrat:
Rep. Lynn Woolsey is on the record as saying she would “be OK with” the House using “deem and pass” (aka, the Slaughter Solution, or the self-executing rule) on the 2300-page health care bill. Sen. Orrin Hatch said Slaughter was “about as unconstitutional as anything I’ve ever seen.” Although this rule has been used before by Republicans, in no case has it been applied to such sweeping legislation. Given the consistent polls indicating most American oppose the health care bills before Congress, Woolsey’s support of this maneuver is convenient to her own ends, not those of the voters. It is time for new representation in California’s Sixth Congressional District. We need someone who attentively listens to and works for us. We also need someone in Congress who won’t skirt proper, parliamentary procedure when it’s convenient. It’s time to replace Lynn Woolsey.
