Penny Young Nance wrote a fine and very timely opinion piece two days ago called “Why Can’t Maureen Dowd and Her Fellow Liberals Grow Up? It’s Time for Congress to Defund Planned Parenthood, NPR and Other Pet Projects.” She notes,
…it is patently irresponsible for Congress to fund an enterprise in Planned Parenthood which a) turned a $63 million profit according to its last report, b) pathologically lies to Congress by continuing to suggest fungible hundreds of millions don’t finance abortions — which is against federal law, and c) has been caught red-handed willing to aid and abet sex traffickers who exploit young women and girls.
And then she adds more broadly:
In truth, defunding Planned Parenthood, the National Endowment for the Arts, Public Broadcasting, and NPR actually removes government interference from our lives. Forcing taxpayers to fund these pet liberal entitlements, when alternatives abound and the government is mired in debt, is fiscal insanity.
Read the entire piece and be refreshed by a woman who isn’t bamboozled by liberal talking points. Too bad our own Lynn Woolsey is bamboozled by them.
UPDATE (4/11/11): It is worth noting that according to the Project Vote Smart issues page for Lynn Woolsey, she has received 100% support report cards from Planned Parenthood for every two-year term except the first in which she only received 98%. Same 100% record for NARAL Pro-Choice America. Naturally, since she is resolutely against the pro-life stances, she has always scored a big fat 0% from the Life Priority Network and the National Right to Life Committee. For Lynn Woolsey, babies in the womb have no rights.
