Today, the House refused to increase the national debt ceiling without assurances of major budget cuts too. The vote was 318-97 as the Republican majority was joined by many Democrats who were told by their leadership to vote against the measure because it was a “charade” bill. Whatever their reason for voting “no,” the outcome was the correct one. Congress should not raise the debt ceiling without accompanying provisions for deep budget cuts.
Rep. Woolsey, always a big budget advocate, ignored her party’s advice and voted for the debt ceiling increase. Hardly a surprise. When will we vote for a representative who understands the immeasurable harm we are doing to ourselves and future generations by spending TRILLIONS we do not have? Come on, voters! Let’s get with it.
