As noted by Matt Hawes of Campaign for Liberty in his article, “Putting a Fork in the FDA’s Abuses,” we don’t need aggressive protection from this agency against Amish farmers who provide raw milk to outlets that want it. Raiding the farm, arresting the farmer, and shutting down the family operation is federal power run far amuck!
On the other hand, when it comes to giant ag-business livestock concerns using antibiotics on healthy animals, the FDA has hesitated to take action despite evidence that this use in animal feed “encourages emergence of superbugs.”
Congress needs to ride herd on the FDA and curb its bad judgment. Harassing organic Amish farmers while allowing giant agri-business to continue unsafe procedures illustrates a skewed sense of priorities at this federal agency. Rep. Woolsey and her colleagues are urged to correct this FDA misapplication of its delegated powers.
